About A +

A+ Academic Writing trains high school and university students to write more effectively. Our courses are for advanced students, students who are already doing well but want to do better. Studying with A+ Academic Writing will help you boost your scores on important exams. We will show you how to write more clearly and much more quickly. We will focus on your specific needs, and soon you will produce first-class essays both at home and in class. Follow our program, and your writing will really improve.

The Unique RSP System and COMARKER

A+ Academic Writing has developed COMARKER™, a unique web-based writing program for individual students. Research shows that the fastest way to improve your writing is to edit and revise your own work, but how do you decide what to revise? A+ Academic Writing requires that students write at least one complete essay each week (300 - 500 wds) and then revise each essay at least three times. Using COMARKER™, you will receive direct and rapid marking of your drafts. A+ Academic Writing Workshops promises to return your work within 24 hours, and so, by the time you meet your teacher you will know exactly what problems you can't solve on your own.

Small Group Teaching

Groups have a maximum of 6 students to ensure that each student receives full attention from the teacher. In our small classes students develop close relationships with each other and with their teacher. A+ Academic Writing assigns students to groups with similar writing levels, not necessarily the same grade.

Techniques for Literary Analysis and Regular-School English Projects

Many students feel helpless and hopeless when they first encounter classical poetry, novels and drama, especially Shakespeare. They have difficulty understanding how literature works and so miss the beauty of the works they read. Our teachers love literature. They love to talk about literature, and they love to help students see literature from new perspectives.

Practicing Writing to Prepare for Exams

On the British Columbia Provincial Exams, out of a total of 87 marks, 60 marks are for written compositions. Writing thus accounts for 69% of the total mark. Clearly, essays are the key to success on these exams. However, writing effectively involves much more than grammar and structure, and so A+ Academic Writing programs are not just about exams. Students learn techniques to master poetry, Shakespearean drama, short stories, novels, rhetoric, and they learn to focus these techniques in persuasive essays that will beat the big tests. A+ Academic Writing leads students to extend their literary roots deep into the three big essays in high school – poetic analysis, analysis of short fiction, and the original essay. Most importantly, A+ Academic Writing Workshops prepare students for even greater challenges in university.

Developing the Academic Mindset – Thinking Logically in English

As a student with A+ Academic writing, you will study writing with a native speaker of English, a specialist in English literature. Interaction with A+ Academic Writing helps students acquire the academic mind set. With A+ Academic Writing you will work intensively on your writing skills – Grammar, Vocabulary, Logic, Structure and Style – and most importantly, you will learn how to think, speak and write like an academic.

A Wealth of Materials

A+ Academic Writing draws on the infinite resources of the Internet as well as the extensive libraries of our three instructors.
